Windows Update tweaks
These four tweaks change how Windows Update behaves, not whether you get updates. None of them blocks security updates, and none is in Default mode. They suit people who are tired of surprise restarts or of Windows installing extra software when they plug in a device.
| Tweak | Default | Policy | Needs |

Prevent automatic restarts after updates while signed in-PreventUpdateAutoReboot | policy | Any
Disable sharing downloaded updates with other PCs-DisableDeliveryOptimization | Any
Prevent Windows from auto-installing device companion apps-DisableDeviceAutoAppDownload | policy | Any |
What each one changes
- Do not get updates as soon as they are available (
-DisableUpdateASAP). Windows 11 has a setting to get new non-security features early. This turns it off, so you get them when they roll out to everyone. - No automatic restarts while you are signed in (
-PreventUpdateAutoReboot). Windows waits for you to restart instead of restarting on its own while someone is signed in. Updates still install, so restart regularly to finish them. This one is a policy, so Windows Update settings will mention your organization. - No update sharing (
-DisableDeliveryOptimization). By default Windows can share update files with other PCs, on your network or on the internet, and download from them. This stops both directions. - No device companion apps (
-DisableDeviceAutoAppDownload). Some devices, such as certain monitors, make Windows Update install a companion app from the maker. The device still works without it.

Prevent Windows from auto-installing device companion apps
Stops Windows from silently installing device companion apps via Windows Update when you connect certain devices, like monitors from LG and Alienware. These devices will still work as expected, this only stops Windows Update from automatically installing additional apps without consent.
