AI tweaks

Windows 11 adds AI features with almost every update: Copilot, Recall, Click to Do, and AI tools inside Edge, Paint and Notepad. Win11Debloat has 7 tweaks to switch them off. Default mode applies the four that matter most. All of them need Windows 11 22H2 or later, and six of them use policies.

Short answer

How do I turn off all AI features in Windows 11 with Win11Debloat?

Run this, or tick the whole AI box in the wizard's System Tweaks page:

PowerShell
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm "https://debloat.raphi.re/"))) -DisableCopilot -DisableRecall -DisableClickToDo -DisableAISvcAutoStart -DisableEdgeAI -DisablePaintAI -DisableNotepadAI -Silent

The seven tweaks at a glance

Edge AICopilot in Edge's sidebar, AI writing help, AI history search8 Edge policies
Paint AICocreator, generative fill and erase, Image Creator, background removal5 Paint policies
Notepad AIAI writing features in Notepad1 Notepad policy

The full guides go deeper: removing Copilot, including what Microsoft says about the old Copilot policy, and disabling Recall, with Microsoft's definition of each Recall value.

Which ones to use

  • Keep Default mode's four unless you use Copilot or Recall. They cover the AI features that run on their own or collect data.
  • Add Edge AI if you use Edge and do not want its Copilot sidebar. It sets Edge policies, so Edge will say Your browser is managed by your organization.
  • Paint and Notepad AI are opt-in features in those apps. Disable them if you want the plain apps back, or if they keep prompting you.

Questions

Does turning off AI features make Windows faster?

Not measurably on our test PC. The one change that affects what runs in the background is the AI service, which Default mode switches to start on demand. The rest stop features from running or collecting data when you have not asked for them.

Will Windows updates turn the AI features back on?

The policy-based tweaks stay in effect across updates. An update can reinstall the Copilot app, though, so run Win11Debloat again with -RunSavedSettings after a big update.

Can I turn off Chrome's AI features?

Not in release 2026.08.24. A -DisableChromeAI tweak is in the project's unreleased code and should come with the next release. What is coming.
