System tweaks

A mixed group of Windows behaviours that people often want to change: the Windows 11 right-click menu, mouse acceleration, the Sticky Keys pop-up, automatic disk cleanup, Fast Startup and automatic BitLocker encryption. Default mode applies two of the eight. The others are personal choices, and two of them affect security or startup, so read the notes first.

Worth knowing before you apply them

  • Classic context menu (-RevertContextMenu) brings back the full Windows 10 right-click menu, without the Show more options step. It is one of the most requested Windows 11 changes and is easy to reverse.
  • Mouse acceleration (-DisableMouseAcceleration) turns off Enhance pointer precision, so the pointer moves the same distance however fast you move the mouse. Gamers usually prefer it off. It needs a restart.
  • Sticky Keys (-DisableStickyKeys) only stops the pop-up that appears when you press Shift five times. Sticky Keys itself is still available in Accessibility settings.
  • Storage Sense (-DisableStorageSense): with it on, Windows can delete temporary files, empty the Recycle Bin and clean old files from Downloads. Turn it off if you have lost files that way. You then clean up yourself.
  • Fast Startup (-DisableFastStartup) makes shutdown a real shutdown. That helps with dual-boot setups and some driver or update problems, at the cost of a slightly slower cold start.
  • BitLocker automatic encryption (-DisableBitlockerAutoEncryption) stops Windows 11 from encrypting the drive on its own. It does not decrypt a drive that is already encrypted, and you can still turn BitLocker on yourself. Without encryption, anyone with your disk can read your files, so only use this if you know why you want it.
  • Drag Tray and Modern Standby networking are in Default mode. The Drag Tray is the share bar that appears at the top of the screen when you drag a file, on Windows 11 25H2. Modern Standby networking keeps laptops online while asleep, and turning it off can save battery.

Questions

How do I get the old right-click menu back in Windows 11?

Apply -RevertContextMenu, or tick Use classic Windows 10 context menu style in the wizard. It takes effect after Explorer restarts. To go back to the Windows 11 menu, untick it, or import its undo file.

Is it safe to disable Fast Startup?

Yes. It only changes what happens at shutdown. Windows boots a little slower from a full shutdown, and restarts are not affected.
